Teatru Astra announces the opera Lucia di Lammermoor for 2017 |
Teatru Astra proudly announces the opera production of Lucia di Lammermoor, a tragic opera in three acts by Gaetano Donizetti on the 26 and 28 October 2017. The opera was produced at the same Teatru Astra way back in February 1988. Lucia di Lammermoor is a dramma tragico (tragic opera) in three acts by Gaetano Donizetti. Salvadore Cammarano wrote the Italian language libretto loosely based upon Sir Walter Scott's historical novel The Bride of Lammermoor. The story concerns the emotionally fragile Lucy Ashton (Lucia) who is caught in a feud between her own family and that of the Ravenswoods. The setting is the Lammermuir Hills of Scotland (Lammermoor) in the 17th century. Enrico Stinchelli, of La Barcaccia fame, will once again be responsible for the artistic production while Joseph Vella, Astra Theatre's Musical Director, will be directing the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra for the two performances. The opera, which is part of the sixteenth edition of Festival Mediterranea, a festival of arts and culture in Gozo, is produced in collaboration with the Gozo Support Cultural Fund managed by the Malta Arts Council.
