Teatru Astra proudly presents its 8th annual musical, the beloved classic Fiddler on the Roof on March 22nd, 23rd, 29th, and 30th, 2025, bringing together a remarkable cast and creative team for an unforgettable experience.

Veteran performer Mark Tonna will take on the iconic role of Tevye, the affable and philosophical milkman. With a career spanning decades and stages worldwide, Tonna brings his immense talent and experience to this cherished character. From his early days as part of local bands to becoming a celebrated solo artist, Tonna has consistently shone in musical theatre, earning multiple accolades, including nominations for Best Male Singer at the Malta Music Awards.

Returning to the Astra stage, Pia Zammit will reprise her role as Golde, Tevye's sharp-witted and loving wife. Known for her vibrant performances in shows like West Side Story and Chicago among hundreds of others, Zammit's rich stage presence and comedic timing promise to add depth and charm to this beloved character.

Taking on the role of Tevye's eldest daughter, Lisa Baldacchino brings her extensive stage experience and operatic training to the character of Tzeitel. Baldacchino's impressive resume includes performances in Grease and Beauty and the Beast Panto, as well as behind-the-scenes work in production management and stage direction. Her multifaceted expertise ensures a compelling portrayal.

Another familiar face at Teatru Astra, Hannah Spiteri will star as Hodel, Tevye's spirited second daughter. Following her acclaimed performance in West Side Story,

Spiteri will showcase her talent as both a singer and a dancer being also the production's dance captain, where her choreography expertise will also elevate the ensemble's performance.

Marking her first principal role, Nina Galea will be singing the part of Chava, Tevye's introspective third daughter. Despite being relatively new to the local theatre scene, Galea's dedication and talent have shone through in recent productions like West Side Story and Cabaret. At just 20 years old, Galea is set to deliver a breakout performance.

Adding a touch of mystique and musicality, George Curmi, locally known as il-Puse' takes on the iconic titular role of the Fiddler, embodying the heart and soul of Anatevka's traditions.

Leading the production is Artistic Director Christopher Gatt, by now another veteran at Astra, known for his visionary approach to theatre and attention to detail. Musical direction is for the first time under George Apap's baton, who albeit being his first time directing the musical, is another of those well-known figures both at Astra, as well as in the local music scene. Francesco Nicodeme will be lending his talents as Choreographer, crafting dynamic and expressive movements to bring the traditions of Anatevka to life. Vocal coaching will be honed under Cathy Lawlor, while the choir will be expertly guided by Sylvana Attard.
