A weekend of vintage delights in Gozo kicks off this Thursday with what promises to be a scenic and vocal spectacular: Verdi’s superb Otello. With a titanic Badri Maisuradze’ in the title role, this new production will definitely be a very high point indeed in the local opera milieu. Patrons are in for another memorable treat at the Teatru Astra. Mediterranea is a blend of the secular and the sacred: after all that is what Gozo is all about! Friday will feature prominently the Heart of Gozo: namely St George’s Basilica and Il-Hagar – the Museum. Patrons will be taken on a guided tour to both iconic sites where religious art and culture fuse into a sublime paean of praise to the Almighty. A Festival with such a name as Mediterranea would be incomplete without the culinary dimension! That is what is being offered on Saturday: a Genuine Taste of Gozo: a definite must for the discerning! Sunday focuses on Music in the Liturgy with St George’s Laudate Pueri Choir singing Renaissance motets during the 11.00am Mass at Basilica. Calypso beckons…

This year’s Festival will run between the 24th October and the 16th November 2013.
